A violent confrontation erupted in Jangaon district ahead of Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s planned visit to Erragunta thanda for the inauguration of welfare schemes. The tension escalated when MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy arrived at the venue with BRS supporters, some of whom were denied entry by the police. Heated exchanges turned into a physical altercation as Congress and BRS workers clashed, throwing plastic chairs at each other while chanting opposing slogans.

The police were forced to intervene with a lathi charge to control the situation, resulting in injuries to several individuals, including a former BRS sarpanch and eight ward members. The unrest peaked when Congress supporters hurled eggs at the MLA, prompting the police to escort him away. Subsequently, the Minister’s visit was canceled, but higher officials carried on with the welfare scheme launch in his absence.

Reacting to the incident, senior MLA T Harish Rao criticized the police’s handling of the situation, labeling their actions undemocratic. He demanded the release of the detained individuals and urged for disciplinary action against the officers involved. The incident has further fueled tensions between the Congress and BRS, highlighting the growing political discord in Telangana.
