Hyderabad is set to witness a major healthcare transformation as Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy laid the foundation stone for the new Osmania General Hospital in Goshamahal. The state-of-the-art facility, being constructed at a cost of ₹2,700 crore, will span 32 lakh square feet and feature 2,000 beds, aligning with National Medical Commission (NMC) and Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) norms. The ambitious project includes 29 major and 12 minor operation theatres, robotic surgery units, and a dedicated transplant theatre, significantly enhancing the city’s advanced medical capabilities.
In addition to expanding medical services, the new campus will serve as an education hub, incorporating nursing, dental, and physiotherapy colleges. The hospital will introduce eight new super-specialty disciplines across 30 departments, bolstering medical research and training. To ensure seamless execution, multiple government departments, including health, education, and law enforcement, are collaborating on the project. Furthermore, the adjacent police campus is being redesigned to complement the development, with improved road infrastructure featuring ‘no signal’ junctions and underpasses to ease traffic congestion.
The new Osmania General Hospital will also house essential facilities such as a power sub-station, fire station, bio and non-bio waste management systems, and a sewage treatment plant. Authorities have addressed concerns regarding the relocation of a government school previously on the hospital premises. Additionally, helipads are being planned for emergency patient transfers and organ transplant procedures, reinforcing Hyderabad’s commitment to modernizing public healthcare infrastructure. With this project, the city is poised to emerge as a leading center for advanced medical treatment and education in South India.
