Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s planned visit to the United States has been cancelled after the Ministry of External Affairs reportedly denied the required political clearance, according to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). Reddy, who is currently on an official visit to the United Kingdom, was scheduled to travel to Boston as part of the TelanganaRising initiative before returning to Hyderabad on August 30. Following the Centre’s decision, he will now return directly from London to Hyderabad on August 23.
The Chief Minister expressed disappointment over the decision, stating that the US visit was aimed at attracting world-class universities and educational institutions to Telangana under the spirit of the National Education Policy. He said the objective was to create opportunities for students in Hyderabad by bringing globally renowned institutions, including Ivy League universities, closer to Indian youth. Despite describing the denial as politically motivated, Revanth Reddy said his government would respect the Centre’s decision and continue working towards making Telangana a global destination for higher education and skill development.
Although the US leg of the tour has been cancelled, the Chief Minister will continue his scheduled engagements in the United Kingdom, including meetings with leading academic institutions such as Oxford University, the University of Cambridge, the London School of Economics, the London Business School, and the University of London. He will also hold discussions with sports and skill-development organisations to explore partnerships with Telangana. Officials accompanying the delegation have been instructed to proceed with the US visit independently to finalise Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and collaboration agreements with educational institutions and other partners.
