Hyderabad: Senior Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath passed away early on Sunday, June 8, at the age of 63. He had been admitted to AIG Hospital in Gachibowli after suffering a massive heart attack on Thursday, June 5. Doctors stated that he collapsed at home due to cardiac arrest and was rushed to the hospital by his family, where he was revived through CPR and placed on a ventilator. Despite intensive care and all medical efforts, he breathed his last at 5:45 am.
Gopinath had been dealing with serious health challenges in recent years. He was undergoing dialysis for kidney-related issues and had previously been hospitalized three months ago for treatment. His sudden deterioration following the heart attack came as a shock to political circles and supporters alike. The hospital confirmed that he could not recover from the complications despite continuous monitoring and life support interventions. His demise leaves a notable void in the BRS leadership in Hyderabad.
A veteran in the political landscape, Maganti Gopinath’s journey began in 1982 with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), where he was personally appointed President of Hyderabad City Telugu Yuvata by party founder N.T. Rama Rao. He was elected MLA in 2014, and later switched to the BRS in 2018, winning two more consecutive elections including in 2023. His leadership was further recognized with his appointment as BRS Hyderabad District President in 2022. Known for his grassroots connect and administrative experience, Gopinath’s death marks the end of a long and influential political career.
