Bolero Driver Killed as Overloaded Truck Topples After Hitting Divider in Rampur

A tragic road accident on the Delhi–Nainital highway in claimed the life of a Bolero SUV driver after an overloaded truck carrying wood shavings lost balance, mounted a road divider, and overturned onto the vehicle. The incident occurred near the Pahari Gate crossing on Sunday evening when the Bolero was taking a turn at a highway cut. According to the police, the truck driver attempted to swerve to avoid the SUV, but in doing so climbed onto the divider, causing the heavily loaded vehicle to topple and fall directly onto the Bolero, crushing it completely within seconds.

The driver of the SUV, identified as , a resident of Gujjar Tola, died on the spot after being trapped inside the mangled remains of the vehicle. Police said his body was stuck in the steering wheel and had to be retrieved by cutting the vehicle open, a process that took several hours and required the use of cranes and bulldozers. The Bolero, which had a Uttar Pradesh government registration, was reportedly being used by the electricity department and was engaged as a contract vehicle. At the time of the accident, Firasat Khan was the sole occupant of the SUV.

Superintendent of Police said the accident caused major traffic disruption on the busy highway, leading to a traffic jam stretching nearly two kilometres and lasting for around three hours. Traffic was diverted while rescue and clearance operations were underway, with police from multiple stations, senior officials, and fire services present at the scene. The truck driver sustained injuries and was shifted to a hospital, while the body of the deceased SUV driver was sent to the district hospital for post-mortem after completing inquest formalities. Authorities said further legal action would be taken after the completion of procedural requirements, even as the incident once again highlighted the dangers posed by overloaded vehicles on highways.
