Blaze Erupts at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant’s SMS-2 Unit, No Casualties Reported

A significant fire broke out at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in Andhra Pradesh on Friday morning, May 23, causing panic among workers and raising concerns about industrial safety measures. The fire reportedly started in the SMS-2 (Steel Melting Shop-2) section, a critical part of the steel production process. Eyewitnesses reported heavy smoke and towering flames, prompting an immediate halt to operations in the vicinity and swift evacuation of nearby personnel.

Emergency response teams, including plant security and local fire departments, rushed to the scene to bring the situation under control. Firefighters are currently engaged in efforts to fully extinguish the blaze. While the cause of the fire remains unclear, preliminary assessments suggest it may have been triggered by a technical fault or overheating within the unit. Plant officials and safety engineers have been deployed to investigate the incident and assess the damage caused.

Despite the intensity of the fire, authorities have confirmed that there have been no injuries or fatalities. Officials have stated that further details will be released once a complete internal review is conducted. Meanwhile, plant operations in unaffected sections are being closely monitored, and safety protocols are being re-evaluated to prevent similar incidents in the future.
