The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a sharp attack on Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav after a court framed charges against him, his father Lalu Prasad Yadav, and mother Rabri Devi in the IRCTC scam. Speaking at a press conference in Patna, senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad criticized Tejashwi’s claims of transforming Bihar, pointing to his criminal charges under Section 420 (cheating) and questioning his moral authority to lead the state.
Prasad reminded reporters of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s previous convictions in the fodder scam and other corruption cases, asserting that the RJD family used public office for personal enrichment. He alleged that the family “filled their own pockets while in power” and highlighted irregularities in the allotment of railway hotels in Ranchi and Puri, which the IRCTC investigators say were transferred through benami transactions to the Yadav family — claims consistently denied by the RJD.
The BJP’s renewed focus on the IRCTC case comes as Bihar gears up for assembly elections. By reviving the narrative of dynastic politics and corruption, the party aims to corner Tejashwi Yadav, who has positioned himself as the face of a “new Bihar.” The case provides the BJP both political and legal ammunition to challenge the RJD leadership ahead of the polls, reinforcing its message that corruption remains a key issue in Bihar governance.
