In a disturbing trend of recurring fire mishaps in Hyderabad, a fresh incident was reported on Tuesday, May 20, from Chatrinaka in the Old City area. A fire broke out on the third floor of a residential-cum-commercial building, sending thick smoke billowing into the air. The structure is located just a stone’s throw from the Chatrinaka police station, making the incident all the more alarming due to its proximity to law enforcement.
This is the third such fire reported in just three days, following the tragic blaze at Gulzar Houz on May 18 that claimed multiple lives. Locals swiftly alerted authorities after noticing the smoke, prompting a rapid response. A fire tender from Chandrayangutta fire station reached the spot promptly and began operations to douse the flames. The building reportedly houses both families and shops, but no injuries have been confirmed yet.
As the city reels from back-to-back fire incidents, questions are being raised over fire safety norms and enforcement in densely populated commercial zones. An interdisciplinary team has already been formed to investigate the earlier fire accident, and this new case is likely to add further urgency to the probe. Authorities are yet to release a detailed statement regarding the Chatrinaka fire, and updates are awaited.
