Air India Plane Skids Off Mumbai Runway Amid Heavy Rain, All Passengers Safe

In a concerning incident at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Monday morning, an Air India flight arriving from Kochi veered off the runway while landing during heavy rainfall. The aircraft, an Airbus A350-900 operating as Flight AI2744, experienced what officials described as a “runway excursion” shortly after touchdown. Despite the mishap, the aircraft managed to taxi safely to the designated gate, and all passengers and crew disembarked without injuries.

According to a statement from an Air India spokesperson, the landing was impacted by adverse weather conditions, but the situation was quickly brought under control. “The safety of our passengers and crew remains our top priority. The aircraft has been grounded for thorough checks,” the spokesperson added. Sources indicate that officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are currently investigating the incident to determine the extent of any technical or procedural faults.

Runway excursions can pose serious risks, especially during the monsoon season, which is known to affect airport operations in Mumbai. Fortunately, in this case, swift action by the flight crew ensured a safe outcome. The incident highlights the critical role of aviation safety protocols, especially in unpredictable weather. Air India has confirmed that further updates will be shared after the DGCA’s preliminary findings.
