The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has issued an orange alert, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts in Telangana over the next 24 hours. The alert covers regions including Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nizamabad, and Jagtial, where intense showers are expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. This sudden weather shift has raised concerns about potential flooding and infrastructure disruptions in vulnerable areas.
The IMD has also stated that widespread rainfall is likely in nearly all districts of Telangana through May 26. As a result, maximum daytime temperatures are expected to stay below 36°C across Hyderabad and neighboring districts. These rain-bearing systems are part of an extended weather disturbance expected to last until May 29, keeping the state on high alert for nearly a week.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain indoors during thunderstorms and avoid open areas. Emergency services are being kept on standby, and district administrations have been advised to take precautionary steps, especially in flood-prone zones. Farmers and daily commuters are advised to keep a close watch on weather updates and follow advisories issued by local authorities to ensure safety.
