The legislator from Bijapur City, known for his outspoken and often controversial statements, claimed to have insider information on the case, including the alleged involvement of government ministers. Speaking to reporters, he suggested that Ms. Rao hid gold in various parts of her body, making derogatory comments about where it was concealed. His remarks have drawn widespread condemnation, with critics calling them sexist and inappropriate. Meanwhile, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has dismissed any ministerial involvement, labeling the accusations as political gossip.
The controversy surrounding Ranya Rao began when customs officials at Bengaluru airport apprehended her with gold bars hidden in her clothing after she arrived from Dubai. Initial investigations suggest possible collusion between airport staff and other influential figures. The case took another turn when Ms. Rao’s stepfather, a high-ranking police officer, was placed on “compulsory leave” following allegations of interference in the probe.
