Hyderabad: In a dramatic gesture of solidarity, BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) led a rally from the MLA quarters to the Telangana Assembly, donning an auto driver’s uniform. The protest aimed to demand immediate action on promises made to the state’s 800,000 auto drivers during the 2023 Assembly elections by the Congress-led government. Speaking to the media, KTR accused the government of neglecting its commitments, including the promised financial aid package of ₹12,000 and the establishment of an auto drivers’ welfare board. He emphasized that the suicides of 93 auto drivers under the current regime are a stark reflection of governmental failure.
The rally shed light on the plight of auto drivers, whose demands include financial support for the families of deceased drivers and urgent measures to prevent further suicides. KTR reiterated his party’s commitment to fighting for the rights and welfare of this vulnerable group, urging auto drivers to avoid resorting to extreme steps like taking their lives. “We will not rest until justice is served,” he assured, calling out the government for its continued inaction.
BRS leaders, dressed as auto drivers, highlighted their unwavering commitment to the cause. Their march symbolized their unity with those struggling to make ends meet amidst broken promises. The party called for immediate attention to the issues raised, urging the government to prioritize the welfare of auto workers to ensure their dignity and livelihood.
