Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) has assured residents of Lagcherla, Vikarabad, that their concerns over land acquisition for the proposed pharma city will be raised in the Telangana Assembly’s winter session starting December 9. During an interaction with the affected families on December 7, KTR condemned the government’s alleged harassment of tribal farmers and other residents. He criticized the police for filing “illegal cases” against protesters and demanded immediate withdrawal of these charges. KTR pledged that the BRS would stand firmly with the victims until the land acquisition was canceled.
The Lagcherla land conflict stems from the government’s attempt to acquire lands for the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TIIC). This led to violent protests in August, during which several residents allegedly attacked government officials. KTR accused opposition leader Revanth Reddy of land grabbing and suggested that the government acquire the 500 acres of land owned by Reddy’s family in Veldanda instead of tribal lands. He also spoke to the Vikarabad district SP, urging an end to the police’s harassment of the victims and promising full legal support for their fight.
KTR reiterated the BRS’s commitment to safeguarding tribal and farmer rights, highlighting previous victories where similar acquisition efforts were overturned. He emphasized that the government’s priority should be development without displacing marginalized communities. With Assembly discussions imminent, KTR stated that the BRS would keep the issue alive and ensure justice for the Lagcherla residents.
