Telangana CM Criticizes BJP’s ‘One Nation, One Election’ Agenda

In a recent address, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to consolidate power through the controversial ‘one nation, one election’ initiative. Speaking at a memorial for the late CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury, Reddy emphasized that the concept undermines the federal structure of India, which is a union of states. He urged citizens to reject these efforts, which he believes threaten the spirit of democracy.

Reddy further criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his inaction regarding comments made by Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu about Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi, labeling such rhetoric as indicative of the BJP’s “fascist views.” He underscored the significance of Yechury’s contributions to national policies, highlighting his role in key legislation like the Right to Education and Food Security Act. The CM lamented Yechury’s passing as a substantial loss for the marginalized and a setback for the collaborative efforts against the BJP.

The Chief Minister also reflected on the diminishing influence of Telugu leaders in national politics, suggesting that Yechury’s guidance would have been invaluable in this challenging landscape. As the political climate intensifies, Reddy’s remarks underscore ongoing tensions between state and central governance in India.
