Amaravati: Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu is expected to make landfall along the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narasapur, south of Ongole, during the midnight hours of November 2–3, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather system is likely to cross the coast with sustained wind speeds of 100–110 kmph, while gusts may reach up to 120 kmph. Authorities have warned residents in vulnerable coastal districts to remain alert as heavy rain, strong winds and rough sea conditions are expected during the landfall.
The impact of Cyclone Murasu is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms across many parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema. The IMD has also forecast extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations in Bapatla, Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor and Tirupati districts. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, while district administrations have intensified preparedness measures. Emergency response teams have been positioned in vulnerable regions, and evacuation efforts are underway in low-lying areas to minimise the impact of the cyclone.
As the cyclone approaches the coast, authorities have stepped up disaster management operations. Three teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in Nellore, Prakasam and Markapuram to support rescue and relief efforts. Several IndiGo flights from Vijayawada have been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, while the Tamil Nadu government has sent electricity department teams to assist Andhra Pradesh in restoring power in case of disruptions. Meanwhile, the IMD clarified that Cyclone Murasu is not expected to affect West Bengal, and no weather warning has been issued for the state.
