Hyderabad police have arrested a 25-year-old woman for allegedly carrying out a string of house burglaries in the Uppal area by disguising herself in a burqa to avoid identification. According to police, the accused committed 10 thefts within just 20 days, stealing gold, silver, cash, and an iPhone 17, with the total value of the stolen property estimated at around Rs 70 lakh. Investigators relied on CCTV footage, which showed the woman entering and leaving targeted houses while carrying a backpack. She was eventually arrested near the LB Nagar Bus Stop, and police recovered a cutting machine allegedly used to break into locked homes.
One of the major thefts involved the residence of Gangam Bhaskar Reddy, who had travelled to the Sri Mallanna Swamy Temple in Komuravelli. During his absence, burglars allegedly broke into the house, ransacked cupboards, and stole around 48 tolas of gold ornaments, 1.5 kilograms of silver articles, and Rs 2 lakh in cash. After a complaint was lodged, Uppal Police launched an investigation using CCTV footage and other evidence, which ultimately led to the suspect’s arrest. Police said the accused has confessed to multiple thefts during questioning.
Police identified the accused as Paga Jaya, a native of Bhadradri Kothagudem district and a BTech college dropout who reportedly left her studies due to financial difficulties. After marrying in 2024, she moved to Hyderabad with her husband and settled in Uppal. Investigators allege that she turned to burglary to finance a luxurious lifestyle, selling the stolen valuables to cover personal expenses. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and police are continuing their investigation to determine whether she had any accomplices involved in the crimes.
