Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand has directed all police personnel across the state not to participate in dances or entertainment programmes while wearing their official uniform. The order comes in response to a growing number of incidents where police officers were seen dancing, delivering speeches, or taking part in performances during private functions, festivals, and public celebrations. The DGP has reportedly made it clear that the police uniform represents discipline, authority, and public trust, and should not be used in activities that could undermine the dignity of the force.
According to instructions circulated to police units, any officer or staff member found violating the directive by participating in entertainment programmes while in uniform will face disciplinary action. Senior officials have been instructed to communicate the order to all personnel and ensure strict compliance. While police personnel often work under stressful conditions and may participate in community events during their free time, officials stressed that such activities should not be carried out while wearing the official uniform, as it carries the responsibility and image of the police department.
The directive is aimed at preserving the professionalism and decorum of the Telangana Police and reinforcing proper conduct while in uniform. However, authorities have not yet clarified whether the restriction also applies to official cultural programmes, ceremonial events, or police-organised functions where personnel may be invited to participate. The order follows recent instances in which videos of police officers dancing at public celebrations went viral on social media, prompting discussions about maintaining the dignity and public image of the police force.
