Chintalmet Mosque Demolition Row: AIMIM MLA Mohammed Mubeen Detained Amid Land Dispute Protest

Tension prevailed in Hyderabad’s Chintalmet area on Monday after officials carried out a partial demolition at Masjid-e-Mohammadia amid an ongoing land ownership dispute. Revenue officials, accompanied by police and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) personnel, reached the site and reportedly began demolishing a disputed boundary wall. While one group claims the land belongs to a temple, AIMIM leaders and mosque representatives maintain that the property is Waqf land and that the mosque was constructed legally. The situation prompted heavy police deployment to prevent any law-and-order issues as protests erupted outside the mosque.

Bahadurpura MLA Mohammed Mubeen, along with AIMIM leaders and supporters, staged a protest demanding that authorities conduct a joint land survey before taking any demolition action. During the protest, Mubeen questioned officials over the alleged failure to carry out the promised survey and insisted that all necessary ownership documents had already been submitted to the concerned authorities. Videos circulating on social media showed the MLA confronting officials before police detained him and several supporters. They were later shifted to Ramgopalpet Police Station as protesters raised slogans against the police action.

According to AIMIM corporator Mohammed Nawazuddin Ahmed, Masjid-e-Mohammadia was built around one and a half years ago on approximately 300 square yards of Waqf land after the boundaries had been properly marked. He alleged that the Endowment Department was attempting to take over the property despite the mosque being legally constructed and accused certain individuals of creating the dispute over the land. Ahmed also claimed that relevant ownership documents had been submitted to the Hyderabad Police Commissioner and revenue officials. As of now, authorities have not issued an official response to these allegations, while the land dispute and the legality of the demolition remain under contention.
