Several people are feared trapped after a five-storey residential building collapsed in Delhi’s Seemapuri area on Wednesday afternoon, triggering a massive rescue operation. The Delhi Fire Service received an emergency call at around 3:30 PM and immediately rushed multiple fire engines and rescue teams to the site. Visuals from the scene showed residents desperately removing debris with their bare hands while emergency personnel searched for survivors.
According to local residents, four to five people were rescued before emergency teams arrived and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Eyewitnesses claimed that some victims remained trapped under the rubble, including at least one child. Residents also said they provided first aid and CPR to the injured as rescue operations continued. Delhi Traffic Police urged commuters to avoid the area to ensure smooth movement of ambulances and rescue vehicles.
The building collapse comes just a month after a deadly hostel tragedy in Delhi that claimed seven lives. Some local residents alleged that cracks had appeared in the structure after earthquake tremors were felt across the Delhi-NCR region on Tuesday night. However, officials said the exact cause of the collapse will be determined only after a detailed investigation, while search and rescue operations remain underway.
