Hyderabad: A farmer from Telangana’s Nirmal district has appealed to the Telangana and Union governments for help after allegedly being stranded in Oman. Borubonthala Nagesh, a resident of Kothatharalapadu village in Khanapur mandal, said he paid ₹80,000 to a recruitment agent from Jagtial district after being promised a municipality job with a monthly salary of 120 Omani Rials (around ₹30,000). However, after reaching Oman, he claims the promised job was never provided, leaving him without a stable source of income and struggling to survive.
In a video message shared from Oman, Nagesh said he is earning only about ₹75 per day and is unable to meet even his basic needs. He alleged that the recruitment agent had assured him he would not have to pay rent, but the promises were not fulfilled. Nagesh further claimed that his employer took away his passport and identity card, forcing him to flee and seek shelter at a date palm farm. According to him, nearly 500 Omani Rials (around ₹1.25 lakh) are now being demanded to facilitate his return to India.
The video also features another Indian worker, who alleged that several people were recruited under the promise of municipality jobs in Oman but were instead assigned farm or construction work under difficult conditions. The claims made in the videos have not been independently verified. The incident comes amid growing concerns over fraudulent overseas recruitment from Telangana, with official data showing hundreds of complaints related to overseas job scams in recent years. Oman has also been among the Gulf countries reporting a significant number of grievances involving Indian migrant workers.
