Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President KT Rama Rao on Tuesday accused the Telangana Police of working more actively for the Congress party than for the government’s own workers, following an alleged attack on his PRO Mahesh Mudiraj and PA Mahender Reddy inside a police station in Hyderabad. Condemning the incident, KTR alleged that the Congress government was resorting to attacks and diversionary tactics out of frustration over questions being raised by the BRS. Speaking to the media in Delhi, he claimed that the government had failed to answer issues raised by his party and was instead attempting to divert public attention through such incidents.
KTR alleged that the latest incident was part of a series of attacks targeting BRS leaders and supporters. He referred to an earlier alleged attack at the residence of BRS leader and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, saying that when BRS leaders went there to oppose the incident, they were detained inside a police station and an attempt was allegedly made to attack them there as well. Referring to Monday’s incident, KTR claimed that around 15 people in plain clothes entered the police station and attacked his PRO and PA. He questioned whether those involved were political workers or police personnel and demanded that their identities be established. According to KTR, BRS leaders, MLAs and former ministers repeatedly requested police officials for nearly five hours to register an FIR over the alleged attack, but the police refused to do so.
The BRS working president further alleged that the police were protecting those responsible for the attack and refusing to take action. He said the party would approach the courts and expressed hope that judicial intervention would ensure justice. KTR also warned that Telangana was moving towards “absolute chaos,” alleging that political violence was being enabled by the state machinery. In a post on X, he said that what happened to his PRO and PA inside a police station could happen to any citizen who refused to “bow down to oppression.” The allegations have added to the ongoing political confrontation between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS in Telangana, with the BRS demanding accountability over the alleged attack and the conduct of the police.
