BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut on Tuesday said many Members of Parliament feared for their safety during the ‘Chalo Sansad’ protest in New Delhi, claiming there was concern that protesters could enter the Parliament complex. Speaking to reporters a day after the demonstrations, Ranaut said the gates of Parliament were shut while MPs remained inside the premises as large crowds gathered outside. She described the situation as tense and alleged that several lawmakers believed they could be attacked if the security situation worsened.

Ranaut praised the Delhi Police for handling the unrest, calling security personnel a “shield for the people.” She said police officers endured stone-pelting and injuries while ensuring that members of the public and Parliament remained protected. According to Delhi Police, more than 118 police personnel, including senior officers, were injured during Monday’s clashes, while around 60 protesters were also hurt as demonstrations turned violent. Authorities said security measures around Parliament were tightened and entry and exit points were temporarily restricted during the protest.

The large-scale protest was organised following the Cockroach Janta Party’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ call over the alleged NEET paper leak issue. Thousands of protesters gathered in central Delhi, leading to clashes with security forces and widespread disruption in the area. The incident has intensified the political debate over the handling of the demonstrations, with the ruling BJP defending the police response while Opposition parties and several public figures have criticised the use of force against protesters.
