Deadly Bangkok Pub Fire Claims 27 Lives, Dozens Injured as Investigation Begins

A devastating fire at a pub in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district late on Sunday night claimed the lives of at least 27 people and left dozens of others injured, according to Thai authorities. The blaze broke out at around 11:57 p.m. local time near Lat Phrao Road and spread rapidly through the building before firefighters managed to bring it under control. Emergency teams rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, while rescue personnel searched the premises for victims.

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the scene in the early hours of Monday and said that most of the victims died due to smoke inhalation. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt later confirmed that 22 of the 63 injured victims remain in critical condition. He said firefighters responded quickly after receiving the emergency call, but the flames had already engulfed much of the pub, making rescue operations extremely challenging.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. Officials said only six of the 27 victims have been formally identified so far, with efforts underway to notify the families of those affected. Rescue workers also recovered several mobile phones from the scene, many of which continued to receive calls from worried relatives and friends. The calls were answered and documented by emergency personnel to help identify victims and inform their families about the tragedy.
