A 10-year-old girl was found dead in a forested area of Mehrauli, Delhi, after she was reported missing early Monday, June 23, 2026. Her family, daily-wage labourers originally from Bihar, told police via a PCR call around 5 am that their daughter had gone missing from a footpath near CDR Chowk. The girl sold balloons to support her family and lived on the pavement with her parents and three siblings after losing their rented home. Mehrauli police launched an immediate search and reviewed footage from hundreds of CCTV cameras in the area to trace her movements.

Within four hours, police identified and arrested 25-year-old Bablu, an app-based taxi driver, as the main suspect. During questioning, he confessed to kidnapping the girl from the footpath and later led police to the location where her body was recovered. Police said all legal procedures are underway and that strict action will be taken against the accused as per law. The case has been registered and further investigation is in progress.
