Temple and Mosque Demolished in Faridabad as Authorities Clear Route for RRTS Corridor

Faridabad: A temple and a mosque were demolished during an overnight operation in Haryana’s Faridabad district as part of a major land-clearing exercise for the upcoming Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor. The demolition drive was carried out under heavy security arrangements after authorities identified several structures, including the two religious sites, as falling within the designated project area. Officials said the operation was conducted after midnight to minimize disruptions and ensure smooth execution of the infrastructure project. Residents in the affected area were seen removing belongings from nearby structures as civic authorities and police personnel supervised the operation.

To maintain law and order during the demolition drive, the administration imposed a temporary suspension of mobile internet, dongle services and bulk SMS facilities within a one-kilometre radius of the site. The restrictions remained in force for nearly 22 hours, while essential services such as banking operations and mobile recharges were exempted. Authorities stated that the decision was taken to prevent the spread of rumours, inflammatory messages or misinformation that could potentially trigger unrest. Police officials deployed extensive security personnel across the area and implemented traffic diversions to ensure public safety and reduce inconvenience for commuters.

The demolition is linked to the proposed 64-kilometre Namo Bharat corridor connecting Gurugram, Faridabad and Greater Noida. Officials said the route will support both metro and RRTS services on a shared track and is expected to significantly improve regional connectivity. The project includes plans for 18 stations, with eight proposed in Gurugram and ten in Faridabad. According to authorities, the alignment has already received approval from the Haryana government and is considered a key transportation initiative for the National Capital Region. The administration has maintained that all structures removed during the drive were part of the land required for the corridor’s construction.
