Telangana High Court Website Hacked; Cybercrime Unit Launches Probe

The Telangana High Court’s official website faced a major security breach on November 11, when users attempting to access it were unexpectedly redirected to an external gaming site called “BDG slot.” The breach raised immediate concern within the judicial administration, given that the website handles sensitive legal information and daily operational data. The issue came to light when court staff and visitors reported suspicious redirections, prompting the registrar to review the site’s backend activity and confirm the hack.

Registrar T. Venkateshwar Rao, upon identifying the compromised state of the website, formally lodged a police complaint on November 14 and simultaneously alerted Telangana DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy. He emphasized that the High Court’s digital infrastructure is maintained through the National Informatics Centre (NIC) office located at BRKR Bhavan, Tank Bund Road. According to Rao, several PDFs hosted on the site—including cause lists, case status details, court notices, and administrative documents—were tampered with or redirected, posing a potential threat to both transparency and public access to judicial information.

Following the alert, NIC officials initiated a technical investigation to assess the extent of unauthorized access and identify system weaknesses exploited by the attackers. The Hyderabad Cybercrime Police registered a case under Section 66 read with Section 43, along with Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act, which deal with data theft, impersonation, and online fraud. Authorities are now working to trace the origin of the breach and reinforce cybersecurity measures to prevent future disruptions to the High Court’s digital operations.
