Hyderabad: A massive fire broke out in the Dhoolpet area of Hyderabad late on Monday night, October 20, reportedly triggered by firecrackers during Deepawali celebrations. The incident occurred around 11:00 pm and quickly spread through a kite warehouse, causing extensive damage before firefighters could bring it under control. According to officials from the Yakutpura fire station, the blaze consumed nearly everything stored inside, including kites, raw materials, and two parked cars. While no injuries or casualties were reported, property loss is estimated at around ₹5 lakh.
Local residents said they initially mistook the flames for fireworks before realizing the scale of the fire. Thick plumes of smoke were visible from several parts of the neighborhood as panic spread among nearby households. Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot, and firefighters battled for nearly three hours to extinguish the blaze. Officials suspect that stray sparks from nearby crackers might have landed on combustible materials inside the warehouse, triggering the fire.
The Dhoolpet area, known for its firecracker and kite manufacturing units, has been a fire-prone zone during festive seasons. This incident coincided with another fire accident reported at a godown in Bahadurpura the same night, attended by the Chandulal Baradari fire station. Authorities have urged residents and traders to follow strict fire-safety protocols, especially when storing inflammable goods near residential zones. A detailed investigation is underway to determine whether negligence or lack of safety measures contributed to the fire outbreak.
