Tej Pratap Yadav Booked for MCC Breach Over SUV Use During Nomination

Hajipur: RJD veteran Lalu Prasad’s elder son and Janshakti Janta Dal chief Tej Pratap Yadav has been booked for allegedly violating the model code of conduct (MCC) while filing his nomination for the Mahua assembly seat in Bihar’s Vaishali district. The district police said the Circle Officer of Mahua filed a complaint after a viral video showed Yadav using an SUV with a police logo and a beacon light during a procession to submit his documents on October 16. Police investigations confirmed that the vehicle’s logo and beacon were privately installed, prompting formal action under the MCC.

Tej Pratap, who had been expelled from the RJD on May 25 for six years following revelations of a personal relationship that led to public controversy, floated his own party afterward. His social media posts, which he later claimed were hacked, suggested a perceived conspiracy to create a rift between him and his younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav. Lalu Prasad publicly disowned his elder son, criticizing his “irresponsible behaviour,” which further complicated the political narrative ahead of the Bihar polls.

The case has added another layer of tension to Bihar’s electoral landscape, highlighting both personal and political rivalries within prominent political families. While Tej Pratap attempts to consolidate his support base under the Janshakti Janta Dal banner, authorities are monitoring compliance with electoral rules closely. Analysts suggest that such incidents could impact voter perception and campaign conduct in the run-up to the assembly elections, making the MCC enforcement a key focus for the state election machinery.
