Telangana is recording an average of nearly 40,000 traffic challans every day, highlighting the continued violation of road safety rules despite strict enforcement by the police. According to official traffic department figures, around 3.77 crore traffic violations have been registered across the state over the past 32 months. The data has raised concerns among traffic authorities and road safety experts, who say that the high number of penalties has not led to a significant change in motorists’ behaviour. Officials believe that enforcement alone is not enough unless people voluntarily follow traffic regulations.
Traffic police have identified overspeeding, riding without helmets, driving on the wrong side, jumping traffic signals and other dangerous driving practices as the most common offences. Enforcement teams in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda continue to conduct regular checking drives, vehicle inspections and special operations to detect and penalise violators. The increasing use of surveillance cameras and advanced traffic monitoring technology has improved the detection of offences, but authorities say many motorists continue to repeat violations even after receiving multiple challans.
Road safety experts have stressed that lasting improvements can only be achieved through a combination of strict enforcement, public awareness and responsible driving habits. They have urged motorists to wear helmets and seat belts, obey speed limits, follow traffic signals and cooperate with traffic police to reduce accidents and save lives. Officials maintain that while challans are necessary to enforce the law, creating a culture of disciplined driving through continuous education and public participation is essential for making Telangana’s roads safer for everyone.
