A 15-year-old boy, identified as Mithun, fell into an open drain in Delhi’s Jasola while reportedly chasing a kite on Saturday morning. Nearly 24 hours after the incident, the teenager remains missing as rescue teams continue their search. According to the Delhi Fire Service, information about the incident was received at around 11:54 am on Saturday, following which two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and a search operation was launched. Teams from the Delhi Fire Service, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and Boat Club have been involved in the operation.
Rescue teams have been searching the drain and surrounding areas but have so far been unable to locate Mithun. Officials said the continuous flow of water inside the drain has made the search operation extremely difficult. The NDRF resumed its search on Sunday, combing the drain and adjoining stretches in an effort to trace the missing teenager. Despite the efforts of divers and rescue personnel, there has been no trace of Mithun so far and his body has not been recovered.
Mithun’s family is anxiously waiting for news. His father, Awadhesh Kumar, said the teenager fell into the drain at around 11 am on Saturday and has not been found since. His aunt, Kusum, questioned the response to the incident and alleged that more could have been done immediately after the boy fell into the drain. The family originally hails from Badaun in Uttar Pradesh and had moved to Delhi in search of work. Mithun is the youngest of four siblings, with one sister and two brothers.
