Yoga is India’s Greatest Gift to the World, Says Telangana Health Minister on International Yoga Day

On the occasion of International Yoga Day, celebrated on June 21, Telangana Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha declared yoga as India’s most precious contribution to the world. Speaking at a grand event held at Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad, the minister emphasized that yoga is not merely physical exercise, but a powerful practice that brings harmony between the body, mind, and soul. Acknowledging the ancient sage Maharishi Patanjali for his pivotal role in shaping yoga, he stated that yoga offers effective relief from lifestyle ailments such as hypertension, diabetes, and even cancer.

Highlighting the state government’s efforts, Narasimha said Telangana is actively promoting yoga across public health sectors and educational institutions. So far, 630 yoga teachers have been appointed statewide, with an additional 264 appointments in progress. Free yoga sessions are being conducted at health centers, making wellness accessible to citizens across rural and urban areas alike. The minister underlined that a dedicated teacher and unwavering self-discipline are essential for reaping the full benefits of yogic practices.

Looking toward the future, the Telangana government is taking progressive steps to institutionalize yoga within the academic and medical frameworks of the state. Plans are underway to integrate yogic sciences and naturopathy into postgraduate curriculum, allowing future healthcare professionals to blend traditional wisdom with modern medicine. The state’s initiative not only promotes holistic well-being but also reaffirms yoga’s role as a global tool for mental clarity, concentration, and physical strength.
