The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has reported that nearly 69% of Gaza is now under Israeli displacement orders. Between March 18 and April 14 alone, the Israeli army issued at least 20 such orders, displacing hundreds of thousands. Currently, UNRWA operates 115 shelters across the region, housing over 90,000 displaced Palestinians. The agency warned that the humanitarian crisis is deepening, as the collapse of the ceasefire on March 18 triggered renewed Israeli military strikes and intensified the existing blockade on aid supplies.
According to UNRWA, approximately 420,000 people have been displaced again since the ceasefire breakdown. The agency has called for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and unimpeded access for humanitarian and commercial aid into Gaza. Since March 2, Israel has blocked all humanitarian aid entry into the region, worsening conditions for civilians. The latest round of attacks has resulted in a high civilian death toll, including the deaths of 29 Palestinians on Sunday alone, as reported by Gaza’s Civil Defence.
In specific incidents, 10 individuals were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a residential home in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. In southern Gaza’s Khan Younis city, a drone strike on a tent sheltering displaced persons claimed the life of one woman and injured four others. Additional Israeli assaults in the area killed four more civilians. Gaza’s health ministry reports that since the war began in October 2023, at least 51,201 Palestinians have been killed and over 116,000 injured, underscoring the severe toll on the population as the conflict escalates.
