Telangana Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka presented the state’s annual budget for 2025-26 in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, allocating a massive ₹3,04,965 crore for various sectors. This marks a significant rise from the previous year’s budget of ₹2,91,000 crore, reflecting the government’s push for welfare and infrastructure development. Among the key highlights, ₹2,26,982 crore has been earmarked for revenue expenditure, while ₹36,504 crore is allocated for capital expenditure. Sectors such as agriculture, education, health, and rural development have received substantial funds, with ₹24,439 crore set aside for agriculture, ₹23,108 crore for education, and ₹12,393 crore for health services. Additionally, ₹31,605 crore has been directed toward Panchayat Raj and rural development to strengthen grassroots governance. The budget also emphasizes the welfare of marginalized communities, allocating ₹40,232 crore for Scheduled Castes, ₹17,169 crore for Scheduled Tribes, ₹11,405 crore for Backward Classes, and ₹3,591 crore for minority welfare.
A major highlight of the budget is the Indiramma Housing Scheme, for which ₹22,500 crore has been allocated to construct 4.50 lakh houses across various constituencies, ensuring 3,500 houses per constituency. This initiative aims to provide affordable housing to economically weaker sections and strengthen the state’s housing infrastructure. In the power sector, ₹21,221 crore has been assigned to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply, while ₹23,373 crore is designated for irrigation projects to support farmers. Urban development has also been prioritized, with ₹17,677 crore allocated for municipal affairs and infrastructure projects to modernize cities across Telangana. Meanwhile, ₹775 crore has been earmarked for boosting the tourism sector, and ₹465 crore for the cultural sector to promote heritage and arts. The IT and industry sectors have also received attention, with ₹774 crore and ₹3,525 crore allocated, respectively, to enhance digital infrastructure and industrial growth in the state.
Before presenting the budget at 11 AM, the state cabinet, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, held a meeting at 9:30 AM to finalize allocations and strategic priorities. The budget focuses on both welfare schemes and economic development, balancing social security initiatives with large-scale infrastructure investments. The state government aims to enhance employment opportunities, with ₹900 crore allocated for employment generation programs. Civil supplies and food security initiatives have been granted ₹5,734 crore to ensure access to essential commodities for lower-income groups. The announcement has sparked political discussions, with opposition parties scrutinizing the allocations and questioning the implementation of major schemes. However, the Congress-led government remains firm on its commitment to inclusive growth, positioning this budget as a crucial step toward Telangana’s economic and social progress.
