Suspected Terrorist Killed in Amritsar Explosion While Handling Explosives; BSF Recovers Drone, Heroin from Border Areas

A suspected terrorist was killed in an explosion near Naushera village under Kambo police station in Amritsar’s rural region on Tuesday morning. Amritsar Rural SSP Maninder Singh stated that the deceased was likely retrieving explosive material when the blast occurred, suggesting mishandling led to the fatal detonation. The police responded quickly after receiving early morning reports and rushed the severely injured individual to the hospital, where he was later declared dead. Forensic teams were deployed to examine the scene as investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the incident.

SSP Maninder Singh noted that the area has previously seen activity from anti-national elements attempting to retrieve consignments. “We suspect this individual was among those tasked with collecting such materials. Due to mishandling, the explosion occurred,” he said. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has begun a detailed inspection of the site. Authorities are not ruling out the possibility of a larger network operating in the region, given the pattern of abandoned areas being used for dangerous exchanges.

In related operations, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police recovered one DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone and multiple packets of suspected heroin in separate search missions across the Punjab border. These were found in the Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, and Amritsar districts. The narcotics, weighing over 1.5 kilograms in total, were discovered wrapped in yellow tape with metal loops and torches attached—indicating cross-border smuggling attempts. These developments highlight the persistent security challenges along the Indo-Pak border and the increasing use of drones in narcotics trafficking.
