New Delhi witnessed the detention of more than two dozen students, including NSUI members, during a protest at Jantar Mantar on Monday. The protest targeted alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG exam and the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam. Despite police barricades and heavy security, students gathered for their ‘Chhatra Sansad Gherav’ and attempted to march to Parliament. Police detained the protestors due to a lack of permission for the march.
The Union Education Ministry stated that incidents of malpractice in the NEET-UG exam were isolated, and the careers of successful candidates should not be jeopardized. The CBI has filed an FIR for alleged irregularities in the exam. The UGC-NET-2024 exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency on June 18, was postponed due to concerns about the integrity of the examination.
