In a bold move reflecting growing unrest among students, members of the Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU) gathered outside Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s residence in Jubilee Hills on Monday to stage a protest. Their key demand was the immediate release of long-pending fee reimbursement and scholarship funds, which they claim have been unjustly delayed by the state government. Holding placards and raising slogans, the students called for urgent action to prevent further financial stress on families dependent on state aid for higher education.
Apart from demanding disbursement of funds, the protesting students also raised concerns over increasing donations being collected by several private colleges, calling the practice exploitative. They urged the government to initiate strict action against such institutions and prevent them from burdening students under the guise of management quotas or unofficial payments. The students further warned the state administration against any attempt to dilute or scrap the existing fee reimbursement scheme, stating that it would be seen as a betrayal of the state’s commitment to inclusive education.
As the protest gained momentum, police arrived at the site and detained several students, footage of which quickly circulated across social media platforms. The incident has sparked widespread reactions from student bodies and civil society organizations, many of whom have criticized the government’s silence on critical issues affecting the academic future of thousands. In response, various engineering and professional colleges across Telangana are reportedly mulling over boycotting upcoming counselling sessions as a mark of solidarity with the student community, intensifying pressure on the state to respond swiftly and decisively.
