Seven Kashmiris Feared Dead After Devastating Landslide in Himachal’s Kullu

A massive landslide struck Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district on Thursday, leaving at least seven Kashmiri labourers from Tulail, Bandipora, feared dead. According to officials, the victims were working in Himachal when the tragedy occurred. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) confirmed that the landslide caused the collapse of two houses, trapping nearly a dozen people under the debris. So far, three injured persons have been rescued and one body recovered, while search and rescue operations are being carried out to trace the remaining missing individuals.

The victims identified include four residents from Tulail, Bandipora: Mehrajudin Lone, son of Sabir Lone; Tariq Ahmad Sheikh, son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh; Hussain Lone, son of Sultan Lone (currently residing in Akhal Kangan); and Rashid Sheikh, son of Jamal Sheikh (currently residing in Kangan). Officials stated that the identities of the other victims are being verified as the rescue work continues in the affected area. The SDM Gurez confirmed the preliminary details and said further information will be shared once rescue teams provide updates.

The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister’s Office expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, assuring full support and assistance to the affected families. This landslide comes amid continuous heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, which has triggered several disasters in the region over the past weeks. Authorities have urged caution as the rescue teams, alongside the NDRF, continue operations in difficult terrain and weather conditions to retrieve those still trapped.
