A 39-year-old habitual offender, Sriram Narasimha Chary, was arrested by the Osmania University Police on Thursday, June 19, for a string of burglaries across Hyderabad. The arrest followed a complaint filed on June 11 by a resident of Habsiguda, who reported missing ornaments — a 1.5 tola gold chain and 500 grams of silver — from his house. Upon investigation, police uncovered that Chary was not new to such crimes; he had been operating across three commissionerates and had a total of 24 burglary cases registered against him.
Chary, a resident of Chintal, initially worked as a carpenter and driver. Over time, he succumbed to alcohol addiction, which pushed him into financial distress. To sustain his drinking habits, he began targeting homes, mostly in areas under Cyberabad, Rachakonda, and Hyderabad police limits. Records reveal that he had committed 3 burglaries in Hyderabad, 5 in Rachakonda, and a staggering 16 in Cyberabad. His most recent offenses also included burglaries in the Uppal and Warisguda police jurisdictions.
The accused has been booked under sections 331(1) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for house trespass and theft. Police have also recovered stolen items from him, with a total estimated value of ₹2 lakh. His confession has not only helped crack several unresolved burglary cases but has also served as a reminder of the socio-economic factors driving individuals toward crime. The case remains under further investigation.
