Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, at the inaugural Telangana Sports Conclave held at HICC on Saturday, unveiled the State’s ambitious new Sports Policy, aiming to elevate Telangana as the ‘sports capital of India.’ The policy, described by the Chief Minister as a meticulously crafted blueprint driven by passion and purpose, promises to reshape the sporting culture in the State by prioritizing infrastructure, grassroots development, and global partnerships. “This is not a document for shelves—it’s a mission to create champions,” he declared, addressing a gathering that included India’s top athletes such as Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, shooter Gagan Narang, long jumper Anju Bobby George, and World Athletics VP Adille Sumariwalla.
One of the policy’s standout features is its emphasis on addressing youth disengagement and drug abuse through sports. The Chief Minister announced the launch of the Young India Sports University and Young India Sports Academy, institutions meant to provide world-class training and scouting facilities for budding athletes. Drawing inspiration from his visit to the Korea National Sports University—which has produced multiple Olympic medalists—Reddy also revealed a formal partnership with the Korean institution to enhance international exposure and standards in Telangana. He urged corporate leaders to collaborate with the government, stating, “Transforming Telangana into a sporting hub is a collective responsibility—we must produce world-beaters, not just local heroes.”
The launch ceremony also served as a celebration of recent sporting achievements, with cash awards presented to athletes like A Nandini, Dhanush Srikanth, and Nishka Agarwal. Sports Minister V Srihari, advisor AP Jitender Reddy, SATG Chairman Shiva Sena Reddy, and Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan were among other dignitaries who echoed support for the policy. Together, they emphasized that Telangana is poised for a sporting revolution—not just in infrastructure, but in mindset, inclusivity, and global ambition.
