Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, reached Srinagar on Friday to visit those injured in the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists. According to a senior Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit the Army’s Base Hospital located in the Badamibagh Cantonment area to enquire about the condition of the injured. The devastating attack on April 22 left several people wounded and has sent shockwaves across the nation.
Gandhi’s visit is part of his broader initiative to express solidarity with the victims and their families. Apart from the hospital visit, he is expected to hold meetings with various delegations, including representatives from the Congress party, local trade associations, and the tourism sector. The Congress leader has also expressed a desire to meet individually with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to discuss the security situation and the steps being taken in the aftermath of the attack.
Carrying a message of compassion and unity, Rahul Gandhi cut short his tour of the United States to return to India and attend an urgent Congress Working Committee meeting convened following the tragedy. He also participated in an all-party meeting organized by the central government to address the gravity of the situation. His visit is seen as an effort to “heal the wounds” of the Kashmiri people and reaffirm national solidarity in the face of terrorism.
