PM Modi Inaugurates Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line, Expands City Network to 96 km

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the long-awaited Yellow Line of the Bangalore Metro Rail, a major addition to the city’s transportation network aimed at easing congestion in some of Bengaluru’s busiest areas. The 19-kilometre stretch from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra, part of Phase-2 of the metro project, has been built at a cost of approximately ₹7,160 crore and includes 16 stations. During the launch, PM Modi took a metro ride from RV Road to Electronic City station, interacting with students along the way. Officials noted that the new line is expected to significantly improve connectivity along key routes such as Hosur Road, Silk Board Junction, and Electronics City Junction, benefitting thousands of daily commuters.

With the addition of the Yellow Line, Bengaluru’s operational metro network has now expanded to more than 96 kilometres, enhancing public transport access for a large section of the population. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who also oversees Bengaluru’s development, said that three train sets have already arrived for the line, with a fourth expected later this month. Initially, trains will run at 25-minute intervals, but the frequency will be increased to 10 minutes as operations scale up. The line is expected to be a game-changer for reducing travel times, particularly for tech professionals commuting to the city’s IT corridors.

The inauguration drew large crowds, with people lining both sides of the route to greet PM Modi despite rainy weather. Supporters shouted “Modi, Modi” and showered flower petals as his convoy made its way to the Ragigudda station from KSR Bengaluru City Railway Station. The Prime Minister acknowledged the enthusiastic welcome by waving to the public from his car. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje, and Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar, underscoring the importance of the project for the city’s growth and infrastructure development.
