Mumbai Police placed the city on high alert on Friday after receiving a chilling threat call claiming that 34 “human bombs” carrying around 400 kilograms of RDX had been planted in different vehicles across the city. The anonymous call was made to the traffic police helpline, with the caller identifying himself as a member of an organisation called Lashkar-e-Jihadi. According to police sources, the caller warned that these explosives were meant to cause a massive blast that would “shake the entire city” and result in the deaths of nearly one crore people.
The timing of the threat has caused further concern, as it came on the eve of Anant Chaturdashi, the final day of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations when lakhs of devotees gather across Mumbai for Ganesh idol immersions. The sheer scale of public gatherings on visarjan day has compelled security agencies to intensify patrolling, deploy additional forces, and install checkpoints across sensitive locations. Mumbai Police has assured that all precautionary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of citizens, with bomb squads and anti-terror units placed on standby.
While authorities are treating the threat with utmost seriousness, an investigation has been launched to verify its credibility and trace the origin of the call. Officials said that past instances of hoax calls cannot be ignored, but in light of the sensitive timing and potential risk, maximum vigilance is being maintained. The incident has once again highlighted Mumbai’s vulnerability to terror threats during major festivals, reminding both citizens and authorities of the importance of remaining alert and united in the face of attempts to spread fear and panic.
