Massive Water Pipeline Rupture Submerges Manikonda Colonies, Triggers Emergency Response

A major drinking water pipeline supplying water from the Singur reservoir to Hyderabad burst in the early hours of Tuesday in Manikonda, flooding multiple residential colonies and causing widespread disruption. The rupture occurred around 2:30 am, releasing an enormous volume of water that rushed into Employees Colony and Shiva Sai Colony within minutes. Several apartment basements were completely inundated, leaving parked cars and two-wheelers underwater, while residents woke up to what looked more like a flash flood than a civic failure.

Emergency teams including police, fire services, municipal workers, and HYDRAA rushed to the scene as water continued to surge through the streets. Relief and control operations were launched immediately to drain the flooded areas and prevent further damage. The force of the water not only submerged homes but also severely damaged roads, creating craters and making commuting nearly impossible for morning traffic. Many residents reported panic and confusion as the flooding happened when most people were asleep, giving them little time to move vehicles or belongings.

Officials stated that the nearby Pandena Vagu played a crucial role in draining a large portion of the water, preventing the flooding from spreading to more neighborhoods and limiting what could have been a far larger disaster. Authorities are now assessing structural damage, vehicle losses, and infrastructure impact while working to restore normalcy. The incident has once again exposed the fragile condition of Hyderabad’s underground water supply network — where a single rupture can turn entire colonies into disaster zones within minutes.
