Massive Traffic Jam Stalls Devotees Heading to Maha Kumbh

A massive 300-kilometer-long traffic jam has left thousands of devotees stranded on their way to the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Heavy congestion, worsened by overcrowding, has forced authorities in Madhya Pradesh to stop vehicles from proceeding, urging pilgrims to delay their travel plans. The unprecedented rush has overwhelmed local infrastructure, leaving travelers stuck for hours, many without food, water, or proper facilities. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has appealed to devotees to check traffic conditions before traveling, emphasizing that safety measures are in place to assist stranded pilgrims.

Amidst the chaos, political tensions have escalated, with Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav criticizing the Uttar Pradesh government for mismanaging the event. Yadav accused the administration of neglecting the plight of pilgrims, questioning whether common devotees are being treated humanely. He demanded that vehicles be made toll-free across Uttar Pradesh to ease travel and suggested that the government’s focus on advertisements has overshadowed on-ground preparations. Videos circulating on social media depict an overwhelming sea of vehicles, jammed highways, and exhausted pilgrims struggling to navigate through the congestion.

In response, the Uttar Pradesh police have implemented strict traffic regulations, and the Prayagraj Sangam railway station has been temporarily closed to manage the overwhelming influx of visitors. Authorities have also increased parking facilities, but the crowd remains larger than expected. With the Maha Kumbh continuing until February 26, officials are bracing for further surges, urging travelers to stay informed and take necessary precautions. The event, which has already seen over 44 crore devotees, is witnessing one of the largest gatherings in history, pushing logistical preparations to their limits.
