Massive Fire Guts ‘Anupamaa’ Set in Mumbai’s Film City; No Injuries Reported

A major fire broke out on the set of the popular Hindi television serial Anupamaa at Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari (Film City), Goregaon, Mumbai, on the morning of June 23, 2025. The blaze erupted around 9:30 am, just before the day’s shoot was scheduled to begin. Fortunately, no casualties were reported as the cast and crew had not yet arrived on set. However, the fire gutted the entire set, causing substantial damage to production equipment, costumes, and lighting setups. Fire Brigade officials confirmed that the fire was likely triggered by a short circuit in the electrical box.

Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) swiftly responded by deploying four fire engines and four jumbo tankers to control the blaze. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes and extinguished by 10:30 am, successfully preventing it from spreading to neighboring sets, including those of Bigg Boss Marathi and the Whistling Woods campus. Despite the quick response, officials noted that the presence of highly flammable materials like decorative items and lighting cables contributed to the rapid spread of flames across the studio.

According to fire department sources, the damage caused by the incident could run into hundreds of crores, as expensive equipment such as cameras, speakers, and stage props were completely destroyed. Officials have announced a full investigation to determine whether the set had adhered to all fire safety norms and obtained necessary permissions. This is the second such fire at a film or television set in Mumbai within the past two years, raising renewed concerns about the implementation of safety measures in high-risk shooting environments.
