In a daring late-night heist, masked robbers looted an HDFC ATM located in the Markandeya Nagar area of Hyderabad’s Jeedimetla locality. The culprits used a gas cutter to break open the ATM machine, managing to steal a significant amount of cash without triggering the alarm system. The meticulously planned crime was carried out with such speed and precision that the authorities were only alerted after the robbers had already escaped from the scene.
According to preliminary reports, the ATM’s internal security systems failed to detect the intrusion in real time. By the time local police were informed, the criminals had fled, leaving behind only traces of the method they used to dismantle the ATM. The Jeedimetla police, along with forensic experts and the Clues Team, arrived shortly after and launched an extensive investigation. CCTV footage from nearby shops and the ATM booth itself is being scrutinized for leads on the identity and movements of the accused.
The incident has sparked concerns about the effectiveness of ATM security measures, especially in relatively low-patrolled areas like Markandeya Nagar. While no official amount has been confirmed, sources suggest that the cash stolen runs into several lakhs. Residents in the area have voiced alarm over the growing trend of high-tech ATM thefts in Hyderabad. Police have intensified patrols in nearby neighborhoods and have urged banks to upgrade their surveillance and alarm systems to prevent such incidents in the future.
