A major pipeline of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), which transports Manjeera water from Singur to Hyderabad, burst on Friday afternoon at Peddapur village in Sadasivapet mandal. The sudden rupture led to a heavy gush of water onto National Highway-65, bringing traffic to a halt on one side of the road and causing panic among commuters. Local passersby quickly alerted the authorities, prompting officials from Mission Bhagiratha to step in and halt the water supply from the Singur source.
According to officials, the leakage is substantial and may take several hours to fully contain. Until the repair work is completed, various areas of Hyderabad are expected to experience disruptions in their drinking water supply. The HMWSSB has advised residents to use water judiciously and stay updated through official channels for information on restoration timelines.
The incident comes at a time when Hyderabad is already grappling with heatwaves and water demand is surging. The authorities have assured that repair work is being carried out on a war footing, but residents in the affected zones may need to make alternate arrangements for the next few days. Meanwhile, commuters on NH-65 are advised to take alternative routes until the water recedes and road clearance is completed.
