In a deeply disturbing incident from Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district hospital, a 77-year-old man named Udhavlal Joshi was allegedly beaten and dragged by a doctor in full public view. The shocking event, which took place on April 17, was caught on camera by bystanders and has since gone viral, sparking widespread condemnation. Mr. Joshi had accompanied his ailing wife, who was suffering from a stomach vein disorder, to seek treatment. According to the victim, while they were waiting in queue, the doctor approached them aggressively, questioned their presence, and allegedly began assaulting him without provocation.
Mr. Joshi recounted the harrowing experience to reporters, stating that the doctor slapped him, broke his glasses, kicked him, and dragged him toward the hospital’s police outpost. He also claimed the doctor tore up his medical slip and issued death threats. In a particularly distressing revelation, Joshi said his wife was also assaulted during the chaos. The brutal behaviour shocked both patients and attendants who were present at the scene, many of whom began recording the incident on their phones.
Following public outrage and media attention, the doctor in question reportedly fled the hospital. Civil Surgeon Dr. GL Ahirwar confirmed the incident to NDTV and acknowledged the seriousness of the misconduct. He mentioned that while the doctor initially accused the patient of misbehaviour, the video clearly contradicted this claim. A departmental inquiry has been launched, and strict action is promised. “We’ve taken this up seriously. A notice has been served, and an investigation committee is already looking into the matter,” Dr. Ahirwar assured.
