BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led Telangana government for alleged mass demolitions in Warangal, reportedly carried out to prepare the city for the Miss World beauty pageant events. Taking to social media platform X, KTR questioned the rationale behind what he described as a heartless campaign of destruction, aimed at “beautifying” routes for international guests. He directly addressed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing the state of prioritizing optics over citizens’ welfare. “Why are demolitions being carried out in Warangal? Do you have a secret deal with bulldozer companies?” he asked, further lambasting the Congress as “shameless” for allegedly spending crores on glamour while the poor bear the brunt.
The former minister criticized the state for displacing residents under the guise of urban development, calling the demolitions a brutal blow to the livelihoods of everyday people. Highlighting a lavish dinner held at the historic Chowmahalla Palace for Miss World contestants and dignitaries, KTR questioned how the government could justify spending over ₹200 crores on the event while simultaneously claiming a lack of funds to fulfill promises made to government employees. He denounced the government’s actions as a betrayal of its pro-people image, calling it ironic that a government calling itself “Prajapaala” (people’s rule) was trampling the rights of its citizens.
This criticism is part of a growing series of attacks by the BRS against the Congress regime surrounding the Miss World 2025 pageant, which began on May 10 and will continue until May 31. After a high-profile dinner in Hyderabad, contestants from 109 countries were seen exploring cultural landmarks like Charminar and shopping at Laad Bazaar before heading to Warangal for the next segment of the pageant. The BRS contends that the state’s obsession with international image-building is coming at the expense of its own people’s dignity and shelter, raising serious questions about governance priorities in Telangana.
