Train services on the Blue Line of Kolkata Metro Railway were disrupted for nearly 50 minutes on Sunday morning after a passenger reportedly jumped in front of an oncoming train at Rabindra Sarobar station in Kolkata. The sudden incident forced authorities to immediately cut power supply on both the up and down tracks to prevent further danger and allow rescue operations. Emergency teams rushed the injured middle-aged person to a nearby hospital, though officials said his condition was not immediately known.
Because of the safety shutdown, metro operations were temporarily curtailed, with trains running only between Maidan and Dakshineswar stations for a short period. Commuters faced delays during peak hours, with platforms witnessing heavy crowding as services remained suspended on the affected stretch. According to metro officials, the disruption lasted from around 10:45 am until 11:33 am, after which power was restored and full services gradually resumed across the Blue Line.
Metro authorities confirmed that normal movement of trains was restored within 48 minutes, calling the response swift given the seriousness of the incident. While services are now running smoothly, the episode once again highlights safety concerns in busy urban transit systems where even a single emergency can throw schedules into chaos. Officials have urged passengers to remain cautious near tracks and follow station safety guidelines strictly to avoid such life-threatening situations in the future.
